LOCATION

About 20 minutes north of Kansas City just off Interstate Highway 35.     Adjacent to Watkins Mill State Park.

UNIQUE FEATURES

Great visitor’s center.  This is a woolen mill that includes a grist mill inside the building.  It is included because of the impressive new visitor’s center.

The State of Missouri has done an amazing job of creating a model interpretive center that includes a display of how a grist mill works.  A visitor can learn a great deal about the milling process without leaving the visitor’s center.  This is the only 19th Century textile mill in the United States with it’s original machinery intact.

The site also includes the Watkins family’s 1850’s house, summer kitchen, smokehouse, icehouse and fruit dry house.  Also includes 1870’s era livestock, gardens and orchards.
