A
truly amazing mill experience. The mill is in a remarkable setting.
Spring Mill State Park is beautiful and large. The Mill is part of a
restored 1830’s pioneer village. Many of the log homes and buildings
are original.
The mill was closed
when I was there so I have no knowledge of the machinery or its
condition. But the Web site states that corn is ground in the mill.
There is also a working saw mill adjacent to the mill. There are
costumed interpreters demonstrating pioneer chores and crafts.
The Park is also
home to an impressive 1930’s hotel/convention center/restaurant. The
guest room we used had recently been upgraded to modern standards.
Both the convention center and the restaurant are heavily used. The
Park has many activities for families including a nature center,
camping, cave tours, fishing, hiking and more. There are several
events during the year including “The Gathering at Spring Mill…a
Dulcimer Event”, “Autumn Harvest Days”, and "Holidays in the Village”
to highlight village activities in the winter. |
