If you are one of the lucky ones who has attended or taught at a one room rural school or are just interested in the school heritage, please accept an invitation to visit the Muscatine County one room school house. It is located on Wild Cat Den Road off of highway 22 between Fairport and Montpelier, Iowa at the State Park.

To make it more special, pack a picnic lunch and bring the grandchildren. Present them with your special history lesson of the good old days when life was slower.

Memorabilia has been gathered and displayed including: various size school desks, old school books, a victrola and period lunch buckets sitting on the shelf in the boy’s hall. Lots of pictures of rural Muscatine County rural students and teachers and books containing school records, teacher contracts and souvenir booklets and much more. One can also ring the big school bell.

Heritage Day is the second Saturday of September from 10am to 4pm. No admission charge. This is a wonderful family entertainment with many activities planned for everyone to enjoy. Food is available on the grounds.

Wild Cat Den State Park is beautiful in its natural setting. So come look, sit, relax, enjoy the birds, and sit on the bridge and look at the Pine Creek Grist Mill. This is nature at its best!
